When their former colleague, Carol McNally died in March 2010, RBS employees in Croydon were motivated to raise money for the Melanoma Foundation here at St George’s Hospital.  Their fundraising started in May 2010, when they organised and carried out a sponsored walk along the Thames Path from central London towards the Thames Barrier.  Thanks to generous sponsorship and match funding by their employer, they raised over £12,000.

Caught by the fundraising bug, and wanting to mark the first anniversary of Carol’s death, they decided to organise the sponsored event again this year, and amazingly support for the initiative was even stronger than last year, both via sponsorship and participation, and the team was also pleased to welcome several members of Carol’s family on the walk.  They achieved over £12,500 (again benefiting from match funding by RBS), making their staggering total so far for the Melanoma Foundation practically £25,000.

The event organisers from RBS visited the Hospital in 2011, where they met with Professor Barry Powell, and his team from the Melanoma department, who talked about the work of the department.

So our thanks particularly go to Kiran Patel, Joan Thomson and Ruth Thomas for their commitment to raising funds for such a great cause and for their continued enthusiasm to rally their troops!
