This charity grant of £82,000 has enabled the relocation of Bereavement Services to the very heart of the Hospital.
Previously it was hidden away within a maze of corridors, far from the main Hospital and totally unsympathetic to the needs of grieving families. Now, the Service is provided from the main Hospital corridor from an environment that is empathic and fit for purpose.
Teresa Allison, who manages the Service, said: “It is very difficult, if not impossible, to describe in a few words the difference the Charity has made to our service on a number of levels. Where previously the relatives complained regularly about the poor facilities and totally unsuitable location, they now highly commend the Hospital for the tangible support given to grieving families.
“Prior to the move, clinicians did not have a designated area to work from. Now they have their own dedicated space, which has made a great difference to them.
“These improvements have also enabled staff in Bereavement Services to carr out their responsibiltiies in a more efficient manner, thereby giving a better services to bereaved families.
“Without the generous contribution from St George’s Hospital Charity none of this would have been possible and we are very grateful for the grant that made this possible.”
